IN PURSUE OF DESIGNING THE PSYCHOLOGICALLY APPEALING
Design is a pathway between the user's psychology and the product. The pathway should be carefully constructed to create meaningful interactions that evoke positive experiences. Through user-product interactions, meanings are attached to products and user anticipations are constructed for further interactions or encounters. The relationships between the user and the product are mostly implicit and need to be construed in order to be understood. Viewing from the filters of specific categories could create awareness problem as they limit the designer in perceiving the whole picture.
My philosophy is to breach the categorical thinking that blinds the designer in seeing the whole picture, while focusing on the points that trigger the positive affections.
As George Kelly states:
"What he perceives may not exist, but his perception does"
It is not important what a product is. It is important how that product is perceived.
